Newcastle, AC Milan linked with Sven Botman.

With the transfer window now open, clubs around Europe will look to explore the market for quality players that can bring improvements heading into next season. Sven Botman is a player of that caliber and that’s why he’s being looked at by some of the top clubs across Europe.

Sven Botman is a 22 year old Dutch Center back who plays for 20/21 Ligue one champions LOSC Lille. He came up through the ranks at Ajax but never made a competitive appearance. After a one year loan at SC Heerenveen, he signed with French club Lille ahead of the 20/21 season and played a big role in their title winning campaign.

Style Of Play As an old fashioned center back, Botman is quite aggressive in the tackling department and only goes to ground when absolutely necessary. His reading of the game is excellent as he’s always aware of his surroundings and is most times in the right position to break up offensive plays.

In possession, he prefers to carry the ball on his stronger left foot or make short passes to a fullback or a midfielder dropping deep. He occasionally plays long range passes to a runner or a marauding fullback.

He is very strong in the air which comes as no surprise seeing that he stands at 1.95 tall. He is not the quickest but he’s able to deal with loose balls and match his opponent for speed when the ball is played behind the defense.

His physicality is one of his biggest strengths as it allows him shrug attackers off the ball and aid in his ball carrying.

Transfer Rumors

He’s been linked with a host of clubs as far back January. AC Milan looked to move for him in the

January window but never made a formal approach. Newcastle had a bid of €35m knocked back by Lille as reported by Fabrizio Romano. They have returned for him this summer and would hope to sign him.

A lot will be clear concerning his future in the coming days.
